Information is like a piece of advice; it can either make or mar you. As students who have just recently left secondary school or are still waiting for the JAMB UTME, the questions you might be asking is WHAT NEXT?……………
There are certain things you can involve yourself in for the purpose of personal growth while patiently waiting to write JAMB or even before entering higher institution. As I once read that the two types of students that will not make it are:
*Those that are myopic
*Those that get vital information and refuse to take steps.
Take Up A Vocational Course:
You can learn and specialize in any craft/trade. There are various
crafts available like make-up and fashion, décor, bead making and
tailoring; catering computer application etc. the beautiful thing about
this is that regardless of what you end up studying, this vocation can
be a stepping stone for you after school. You could discover your talent
and create a niche for yourself in a particular field.
Pick Up A Menial Job:
To a lot of Nigerian youth this is degrading at best but working as a
sales girl/boy, an office assistant or a kindergarten school teacher
will help improve your interpersonal relationship and skills, however be
careful not to be lured by the stipends you receive and miss your goal.
Volunteer For A Cause:
I know this is not a norm in our society, we hardly ever want to do
anything without getting monetary incentives but I’ve come to learn that
volunteering for a cause actually helps you become better version of
yourself. There are various causes to volunteer for in all states, look
for one and become a part of something bigger than you.I personally volunteered for slum2school.org in Lagos and also discovered there is also an International Centre for Leadership Development (icldng.org).
There are so many other things that can help you build your future but the emphasis is to not stay idle and you must get something to engage your mind in productive thinking.
